If a hologram is solid enough to be touched and pick up "real" objects, why do things thrown at them pass right thru?
If holodeck items don't exist off the holodeck how did the snowball thrown from inside the holodeck hit Picard standing in the corridor; why was Wesley wet with holographic water (Encounter at Farpoint); and how did a virus spread throughout the ship (Angle One) all outside the holodeck?
(If you eat holodeck food are you hungry again as soon as you leave?)
The first appearance of the chip was seen in the TNG 4TH season episode "Brothers." It was a small chip, held by tongues by Dr. Soong, which would fit into a side panel in Data’s head. It next appeared in the 7TH season opener "Descent Part II" when Data retrieved it while dismantling Lore.
The next time we saw it was in ST: Generations. Suddenly, it had mutated into Data’s emotion "lego" that snapped into the top of his head.
In ST: Insurrection Deanna exclaims "Yuck" to the fact that she’s never kissed Will Riker with a beard before. In fact she has experienced his bearded kiss on several occasions in the following episodes.
Violations: Season 5
Kissed Riker as they cleaned up after poker night as evidenced by the memory sequence.
The Outcast: Season 5
Shared an "old lover’s" kiss after Riker told her of his involvement with Soren of the androgynous race called the J'naii.
Second Chances: Season 6
Passionately kissed (and possibly more) Thomas Riker (Will Riker’s transporter duplicate).
The term "Bird Of Prey" has become synonymous with the small Klingon fighter since its first association in Star Trek: III, The Search For Spock. However, its first use was in the TOS episode "The Balance Of Terror" to describe a Romulan ship. According to this episode, they had been using this decorative feature for decades. Further, it was the Romulans in "The Enterprise Incident" who had stolen Klingon ship designs.
In TOS, as it is with our own Navy and other forces, each ship, command post, etc., had its own unique emblem or "patch" if you will. This was evidenced in several TOS episodes: "Court-Martial", "The Doomsday Machine", "The Omega Glory", "The Ultimate Computer". Though, admittedly, some of them used the same "other ship" emblem they were still different from those of the Enterprise crew. Only after ST:II incorrectly used the Enterprise’s command emblem as the Starfleet symbol, which still stands today, someone came up with the explanation that it was adopted because of the Enterprise’s valiant service.
As Gene Rodenberry had said the Enterprise is just one ship out of the fleet. It’s stories would not necessarily be any more or less fantastic than any of the others.
The Trill were first introduced in the TNG 4TH season episode "The Host". As established in that episode, Starfleet was unaware of the secret of the Trill until Ambassador Odan’s host body was critically injured in a shuttle attack. The host species had an almost lion-like appearance.
When DS9 went on the air everything changed! Now the Trill and their secret had been known to Starfleet for several decades and were long time associates with the Federation. Their species had also changed. Gone were the cat-like features- being replaced by spots. This particular species had also been introduced on TNG in the 5TH season episode "The Perfect Mate" as the Kriosians.
SPECIAL NOTE: On an appearance on the FX network’s collectibles show "Personal FX" Terri Farrell said they did try the correct species’ make-up on her and decided against it.
Worf wears his Klingon Sash across the wrong shoulder. This, I’m sure, was because if he wore it correctly it would have been on his communicator side.
Worf’s background underwent a drastic change in the TNG 1ST season episode "Heart of Glory" where it was revealed that he had been orphaned by a Romulan attack on the Khitomer outpost and raised by humans on Earth. His original purpose of being on the Enterprise was as part of the Starfleet/Klignon exchange program. This program was to be an exchange of knowledge between the now peaceful factions. The exchange program was evidenced in the TNG 2ND season episode "A Matter of Honor" when Riker was sent to serve on the Klingon ship Pagh.
The Bajorans were introduced in the TNG 5TH season episode "Ensign Ro". Then they became an intrical part of DS9. However, the DS9 Bajorans wore their earrings and clips on the opposite side than that established and continued by the TNG Bajorans.
During the run of TNG it was well established that memorable images (photographs) were digital and were viewed on PADDs or view screens. In TNG’s first movie venture, ST: Generations, Picard reviews a hard copy photo album in his Ready Room.
What is even more amazing is the fact that while it was made of paper it survived a fire that melted the surrounding Tritanium plates!
